AOMA in Action -


 

Advocacy/Government Relations

  • Actively lobbied for the passage of health bills prioritizing the bill that would reform medical liability in the emergency room setting.
  • Lobbied with Children’s Action Alliance for KidsCare bills.
  • Actively lobbied against health bills that would impair the physician-patient relationship.
  • Hosted a successful D.O. Day at the Legislature with 36 D.O.s and 22 students attending and 29 legislators who met with the delegation. Raising the burden of proof from preponderance of evidence to clear and convincing for emergency care when in the ER – SB1032 – was the bill all encouraged their legislators to support.
  • AOMA Immediate Past President Dr. Jeff Morgan and students from AZCOM participated in the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) D.O. Day on Capitol Hill.
  • Several AOMA members attended in Legislative Salute Fundraising Dinners for both Republican and Democratic state legislators.
  • AOMA Immediate Past President Jeff Morgan, D.O. hosted a reception for the Osteopathic Heritage Health Policy Fellows class of 2006 - 2007.
  • Participated in the Disaster Preparedness Coalition with Mike Ward, D.O. representing AOMA.
  • President Charles Finch, D.O. and Amanda Weaver, M.B.A. met with the Director of AHCCCS, Anthony Rodgers, to discuss patient advocacy collaboration.
  • Immediate Past President Jeff Morgan, D.O., Amanda Weaver, M.B.A., and AOMA lobbyist Joe Abate met with January Contreras, J.D., Governor Napolitano’s Health Policy Advisor to discuss access to care issues.
  • American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Participated in the AOA’s Bureau of State Government Affairs Committee Meeting.
  • Participated on the AOA’s Communication Committee.

American Osteopathic Associaiton (AOA)

  • AOMA President Chip Finch, D.O. and Executive Director Amanda Weaver attended D.O. Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C. to lobby for a House bill that would prevent the Medicare physician fee cut.

Community Service

  •   AOMA sponsored Team of Physicians for Students (TOPS) provided free sport physicals – including EKGs and ECHOS, if indicated,  to 2303 high school students at the Sunnyslope High School location and 861 physicals at the Gilbert Hospital location on April 26. (Just D.O. It link).

Education

  • Provided 33.25 hours of high quality AOA Category 1-A continuing medical education at the Annual Convention at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort.
  • Served as one of the sponsors for the Arizona Health-e Connection 2nd Annual Summit. AOMA Board member Brad Croft, D.O. is co-chairman of the E-prescribing initiative and was a presenter at the summit.

Health Policy

  • AOMA President Charles Finch, D.O. presented the AOMA’s patient advocacy program to Adda Alexander with the Arizona Hospital Association who is interested in encouraging hospitals in Arizona to participate

Membership/Member Services

 

  • Added seventeen new members during this period.
  • Hosted five AOMA District dinner meetings for elections.
  • Met with officers of the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners to discuss concerns

Public Relations

  •  Arranged for television coverage of TOPS on Channels 3, 5, 12 and 15 as well as multiple articles in the   newspapers in Metropolitan Phoenix.

Students

  • Held Student Consortium meetings at AZCOM for election of student representatives to the Board of Trustees and House of Delegates.
     

Residents

  • Provided a scholarship for a resident to participate in the national TIPS program which is Training in Policy Studies program.
